In an announcement at the PAP Yuhua branch today, the People's Action Party (PAP) revealed that it will send Ms Grace Fu, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resourcs and for Foreign Affairs, to defend her Yuhua seat in the upcoming General Elections (GE).
51 year-old Ms Fu has held the posts of Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, as well as Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and for Foreign Affairs, since 2012. Prior to entering politics, she was the chief executive of PSA South East Asia and Japan. In 2006, she began her political career as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Jurong Group Representation Constituency (GRC) and gained access to parliament via a walkover that year. Ms Fu was appointed a Minister of State soon after.
Her first electoral contest was in the 2011 General Election, when she stood in Yuhua SMC and defeated Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Teo Soh Lung with 66.86 per cent of the vote.
The SDP is expected to contest the Yuhua seat once again.
