Former Cabinet Minister and PAP Chariman Lim Boon Heng commented on the mood in Aljunied saying that it will be tough for the PAP to wrestle Aljunied GRC from the Workers Party.
However, he also shared that there was a change in mood. Initially, the PAP team faced people who were not very open or friendly but now the response is quite friendly. Despite this, he admitted that the positive change in mood does not necessarily meant an increase in vote share and that it was hard to say.
The current chairmen of the five PAP branches in Aljunied GRC are party activist Victor Lye in Bedok Reservoir-Punggol; K. Muralidharan Pillai in Paya Lebar; Chan Hui Yuh in Serangoon; Chua Eng Leong in Eunos and Shamsul Kamar in Kaki Bukit.
After GE2011, Lim Boon Heng has been active on the ground and was tasked to win back Aljunied GRC. He was coy and refused to rule out if he would make a political comeback in Aljunied GRC.
Likewise for MP Yeo Guat Kwang, it is still uncertain if the 4 term MP would be redeployed in Aljunied to contest. The PAP is expected to formally unveil its candidates for Aljunied on Friday.
