On Wednesday morning, the PAP announced that Charles Chong, 62 would contest in Punggol East SMC during GE2015 against WP incumbent Lee Li Lian. Chong has served six terms as MP since he was first elected in 1988.
In GE2011, Charles Chong won by a hairs breath against WP's Yee Jenn Jong. His Joo Chiat SMC has since been absorbed into Marine Parade GRC for this General Election.
After PAP's incumbent Micheal Palmer in Punggol-East SMC resigned over an extra-marital affair, WP's Lee Li Lian won the by-election by 54.5% against Son of Punggol Koh Poh Koon.
