I am submitting an article here with regards to an event celebration attended by my folks recently at Kovan Hub, 206 Hougang Street 21 on the 27th February 2016. This is a Year 2016 Chinese New Year party & 15th anniversary celebration hosted by Hougang Sheng Hong Family Service Centre and Sheng Hong Temple Association. One of the members of the parliament from the PAP has attended this event as guest of honor. Ticket is priced $15 per person. Please refer to the attached picture for the event details.
At the end of the event, the volunteers are distributing free one tin of Home’s Favourite cookie to every guest leaving the premise. On the next following day when I visited my parent’s place, my mother passed one tin of the cookie to me and I realize that the expired date indicate on the tin is 28th February 2016. Understand from my folks that the volunteers do not warn the guests that the freebie is expiry on the next following day. Please refer to the attached picture for the food details.
I do understand that labelling for “Best if used by (or before)” date on food. This usually refers strictly to quality, not safety. What I am really bothered by is that a minor dent on the cookie tin is still acceptable but shouldn’t the sponsor or the organizer feel a little guilty by distributing food items that are going to past its expiry date on the next following day? The quality of their food might begin to diminish after that date even though it is still good to eat. I will say it is like playing roulettes and you are putting the guests at risk if the food has really become contaminated.
