The Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that Malaysians who went to Syria and Iraq ended up deceived and disappointed as they were assigned menial tasks such as cleaning toilets. It was far from what they imagined things to be and regretted moving to Syria.
Zahid added: "They were not involved in the battlefield. They regretted because they are given tasks to clean toilets or sweep rubbish or do other tasks that they do not consider to be for warriors".
As for those Malaysians who died while in Iraq or Syria, they were not directly involved in the battle but were mere collateral damage.
