Singapore People's Party (SPP) chairwoman Mrs Lina Chiam recently posted on Facebook about her husband's photo being misused by the Singapore Democratic Party's (SDP) Chee Soon Juan. According to Mrs Chiam, the photo had been published in the SDP newsletter and had falsely conveyed the sense that SDP's Chee Soon Juan had received the endorsement of political veteran Chiam See Tong.
SPP's reaction has been met with anger from pro-opposition supporters. One of our contributors has this to say about Mr Chiam See Tong's stance.

"SPP is rather petty for complaining about the usage of a mere photo. It's not as if a photo with Chee is going to affect their party's electability which is on par with RP, SDA and NSP.
If we think of the Chee vs Chiam saga, is it really relevant today?
Chiam was a good MP but a bad leader and the consistent failure of SPP to win any new seats from 1997 to 2011 shows it. It was an opposition party that had no distinct ideology and would never have grown. Chiam giving Potong Pasir to his wife who lost the seat in a winnable election year further showed that SPP was a party of narrow interests and not sustainable in the long run. Ben Pwee could have easily retained Potong Pasir if he had run.
In GE2015, Singaporeans rejected the SPP utterly. SPP could not even get 30% of the votes in most wards and PAP's Sitoh Yih Pin won an easy victory (66.6%) against Chiam's wife once again. SDP under Chee actually performed better than SPP in GE2015!
SDP is the future, SPP is the past."
