In a statement today, the Singapore Police Force said that it had arrested a serial molester who had allegedly molested 2 underaged girls while riding on buses travelling along Bukit Batok Central.

On 26th May at about 5.51PM, a 15 year-old girl lodged a report with the police about a man who molested her in a bus ride along Bukit Batok Central. A similar case was reported by another 14 year-old girl who was also molested by the same suspect on the same bus.

Officers from Jurong Police Division and Police Public Transport Security command commenced investigations to identify and apprehend the suspect. He was arrested on 25th June at about 10AM at Chinatown MRT.

The suspect will be charged in court on 27th June for outrage of modesty. If convicted, he faces up to 2 years, jail, caning or any combination of the 3.

SAD WORKLIFE OF A SECURITY GUARD IN SINGAPORE

$

0

Hi there All singapore stuff.

I worked as a guard but quit recently due to many reasons. I hope something can be done for guards in singapore We are so stressed and abused at work that we have to leave our jobs. Below I will list why guard company are always short of manpower. Below is the list.

The true reason why most security companies are always short of manpower.

1.Salary
Most Security guards overwork. A normal human that works 12 hours a day 6 days a week for only $1800.00 is ridiculous. It is like a paid slavery or a machine.

2.Company
Supervisors and Boss who act like they are the masters and guards are the slave. They often shout vulgar words at Guards when they are bad mood. Sometimes for no reason too.

3.Leave and off days
Off days being cancelled.
Worked for 6 days 12 hours and yet being asked to work for few more days without off days.

4.Sick leave
If you are sick you have to use your off days to cover your medical cert or pay will be deducted.

5.Tough Job
Too many rules and no one really cares about guard welfare
Residents complain about guard
Management complains.

6.Lack of time
Unable to spend time with family unable to have fun. All we can do is sleep during our off days because we are too tired.

SURVEY: S'POREAN'S "PHYSICAL WELL BEING" RANKED 137TH OUT OF 145 COUNTRIES

$
0
0

According to the Channel NewsAsia news report “Singapore ranks high in financial well-being, lags in other measures: Gallup study” (Jun 26) – “It scored 111th in purpose well-being – “Liking what you do each day and being motivated to achieve your goals”; 127 in social well-being – “having supportive relationships and love in your life”; and 137th in physical well-being – “having good health and enough energy to get things done daily”.

137th in ”physical well-being”

As we celebrate SG50– don’t you feel that being ranked 137th out of 145 countries in “physical well-being - “having good health and enough energy to get things done daily”” – is not something that we should be proud of?

Does this mean that Singaporeans are in a sense struggling daily?

127th in ”social well-being”

As to being ranked 127th in “social well-being – “having supportive relationships and love in your life”” – does it mean that Singaporeans are in a sense lacking in emotional relationships – arguably the essence of life?

111th in ”purpose well-being”

As to being ranked 111th in “purpose well-being – “Liking what you do each day and being motivated to achieve your goals”” – does it not make you question why our policies and environment have failed to make our lives more meaningful?

What do you think?

Win battles lose war

BEWARE OF HELMY TAN! SHE CHEATED ME OF $24,800 IN RENTAL & DAMAGES

$

People, beware of this woman called Helmy Tan (IC no: S 867*****, Phone: 9****798). She has scammed countless landlords & foreign students in rent money. She, together with her mother Inawaty Tan (G001*****), ran an illegal boarding house for foreign students and conned me of $14,800 in rent & over $10,000 in Property Damages & Legal fees.

In mid 2013, a few months after renting my condo, Helmy Tan stopped paying rent, and when asked she would say that she was having problems with her business and pleaded for an extension of time to pay. Initially, being a good Samaritan, I pitied her and allowed her some extension. However, as her debt kept growing and she began avoiding my calls, I was forced to turn to my legal counsel and served her several eviction notices.

Helmy Tan completely ignored the eviction notices, so I confronted her in the condo on 22 July 2014. She was nowhere to be found; instead, a group of foreign students were at the condo. They told me Helmy and Inawaty did not live in the condo and had been renting out the rooms in the condo to the students. Some students were furious at Helmy as they had recently been evicted by Helmy’s previous landlord as she failed to pay the rent. When I asked them why they still stayed with Helmy, they told me that Helmy required them to pay 3 months rent in advance plus security deposit; and the students who left her never got their money back.

I decided to file a police report and informed her that I will call for the police to arrest her if she still refused to see me. On 24 July 2014, We finally met and came to an agreement. Helmy Tan & Inawaty Tan made partial payment to their debts & signed an agreement to pay the remaining debts, damages and legal fees and vacated the condo.

After Helmy & Inawaty left, they only made 3 payments of $500 each and stopped. They ignored my calls and tried to hide themselves. I do not want other people to fall victim to these heartless Swindlers.

NEIGHBOUR COMPLAIN TO HDB THAT MY TODDLERS ARE NOISY, NOW THEY CAN'T EVEN PLAY

$

I can't believe that the lady living on top of my unit (I am living on the first floor) can actually complain to my helper and now write in to HDB to lodge a complain that my children (4YO, 2YO and twins of 1YO) are noisy and run around in the corridor (my helper would bring them out for a walk for 15-30mins).

This HDB officer has even made her trip here suggesting us to close the door.

This block is situated right in front of a cross junction with constructions happening around. What is the level of noise of my children compared to those?

Moreover my 3 children who are always home are only toddlers. The twins can't even speak and my 2YO is just learning how to talk. 4YO always in the childcare.

If she is complaining that they are noisy in the middle of the night I can possibly still understand.
The point is, my helper is bringing them out in the afternoon time where people are walking and talking around.. Construction are ongoing.. Cars are moving..

I can't imagine because of her I really had to keep my children at home and to close the door 24/7. The weather is so hot and humid n the hdb officer expect us to close the door in the afternoon? Furthermore, to ask them to keep quiet when playing..

If I really do so, I would really felt like I am a let down mum. That even their 15-30 min playtime outside the corridor, I had to cancel. Feel sad for my children, can't even make noise when playing.

Sorry I'm not rich enough to move in to a private property.

Why expect to live like a library when this is only a HDB?

SPOILT S'POREANS STOP COMPLAINING OVER EVERY SINGLE DBSS DEFECTS

$

I think Singaporeans today are just damn spoilt. In my grandparents’ time, people are just happy to have a 3-room HDB flat with running water and proper sewage disposal.

Look at Singaporeans now. With just a bit of defects, must call MP, must write to social media, take videos and put on YouTube, cow-peh-cow-bu. Please la, Govt doesn’t owe you a living!

Didn’t Sim Lian already acknowledge that they will rectify the faults? From the way I see it, they have! Just that Singaporeans these days are so troublesome, they will complain even with the slightest mistakes. When you complain, think of the past. In those days, my grandfather was so grateful to the Govt for HDB flat with running water. He was telling me last time that they have to walk a long path just to fetch water from a well. And the water is dirty.

You people just don’t appreciate every bit of what the Govt has done for you and cow-peh-cow-bu on every single silly thing. So what if the paint in the wall is a bit uneven? Does that hurt you so much that you can’t sleep at night?

Look at last time. My grandmother told me that her whole family of 7 had to squeeze into 1 room. Her parents slept on the bed while her siblings including herself slept on the floor. And there were bugs and cockroaches crawling around!

When you guys complain, think about the past. Think how our Govt has done many good things to bring us to where we are today.

You young fellas are just a bunch of ungrateful ingrates, cow-peh-cow-bu over minor finishing when you actually have a nice house that your grandparents didn’t have the chance to have!

AMOS YEE: POLICE TOOK 14 HOURS BEFORE REPAIRING MY PRISON CELL TOILET BOWL

$

One time, quite inexplicably, the toilet bowl suddenly broke down, and we couldn’t flush the toilet.

I went to the intercom and reported the matter and the police responded with an ‘ok, ok alright’.

After 2 hours, they never came.

My cellmates and I still took a shit after lunch though. Because you know ... we needed to.

So I went to the intercom again.

This time they told us to pour water into the toilet bowl to try to flush down the shit. However, that method wasn’t as effective as we had hoped for.

So my cellmates and I waited eagerly for the policemen to come, as the pervasive smell of shit, permeated the cell.

It took the police more than 14 hours, before they repaired it.

FOREIGN WORKERS ARE THE INVISIBLE FORCE BUILDING UP S'PORE, APPRECIATE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS!

$

On my evening jog today, I chanced upon two foreign construction workers of Indian origin. Slight in stature, they were on walking on the pavement outside the construction site after a hard day's work.

When they heard my approaching footsteps, one of them pulled the other aside to make way for me. His friend grinned good naturedly at him, his long fringe peeping out from the yellow helmet.

As I glanced at their faces, it dawned on me how young these boys are. They are probably in their early to mid 20s.

My mind then wandered to the foreign domestic workers keeping our homes in order, waiters serving us in restaurants, and retail staff assisting us with our purchases.
Like the two boys building our city, many of them are young men and women. Youths at the prime of their lives, they are forced to leave their homes to eke out a living in a foreign land.

Like our youths here in Singapore, they are the pride and hope of their families, hometowns, and maybe even villages.

Like our kids in university, poly or the workforce, they are boys and girls who represent the aspirations and future of a generation.

Like any 20 something year old youth, they have their passions, moments of craziness, naïveté and needs.

Like any young person, they have their dreams and wishes, desires and wants.

The difference, however, is that fate has dealt them a very different hand from what we or our children have received.

The next time we feel the ugliness of xenophobia gripping our hearts, let us remember that these friends of Singapore are really no different from us.
While we celebrate the vitality and vigour of our youth, especially in light of our glorious showing at the recent SEA Games, let us not forget these invisible youths in our midst who work equally hard to build a better and brighter future for Singapore.

Without their youthful energies, many of the comforts which we take for granted here in the Lion City will all crumble to dust.

MESSAGE FROM ABANDONED, DYING GOLDEN RETRIEVER TO ITS OWNER

$

A reader sent this heartbreaking post to us about an abandoned golden retriever named Anchor who was left to die at BLK 334B, 13th Floor, Sengkang Anchorvale Crescent on the 9th of July.

Facebook user Sg Dogslover is looking for any evidence to trace the Anchor's owner as this is a suspected animal abuse case. Anchor died on 24th June after struggling with illness and neglect.

Sg Dogslover has also penned a goodbye note from Anchor, the abandoned dog, to his heartless owner:

Dear master,

Goodbye.

I know not why I am here. I am too frightened to run and too faithful to leave. The little piece of blanket offered little security to me. Each time i hear footsteps, i hoped it was you who had come to bring me back. What I cant figure out is why you didn't even say goodbye.

I want to go home. I am tired. I am hungry. I am tired of waiting, I am wrought with despair, I am fearful that you no longer care.

On the 9th of June, someone saw me in my sorry plight. I was heartbroken and in so much pain, i lay there in my mess at a lift lobby in SengKang. I was taken to a shelter and then to the Vet. Auntie Maria took me in and put me in hospital.

It has been 2 weeks, I am tired and I want to sleep. I am overrun by pain. Thank you for being by my side and the care that you hv given me.

You call me Anchor, and Anchor shall my name be.

The time has come for me to go. Sunshine is beckoning me and rainbow bridge awaits. I will be in my sharpest and liveliest self; waiting for you by the gates.

Goodbye.
Love, Anchor

Picture above: Singapore heroes Collin Seow, Jonathan Vendi, Jayson Yap and Joe Lee!

As we having BBQ dinner,we heard a loud scream from a woman. She was from Korea togther with a group of ladies having dinner at the next pavilion.

All four of us ran over to see what happened. A little girl age about 5 was on the pool deck motionless. Her mum was screaming, she was drowned.

Jayson and Joe immediately when over to do CPR, there was no pulse or breathing already. Jonathan called the ambulance and I spoke to them over the phone. I had this deep fear that we may lose her. The mum was just screaming and was losing it.

Good thing, the little girl vomitted some water and rice out and started breathing. The ambulance come about 12 mins time and brought her to A&E.

According to paramedic, she should be fine. For me , I am just glad, we were there at the time. We save a life today.

So angry!!! This is what happened...

I had 3 seats booked for a movie.

When go to my seats, saw one indian there. We told him he was sitting in our paid seats, then he move one seat to his right, so we took the 3 sets beside him thinking it was ours.

After awhile when checking seat number, realised one of us was seating in another person's seat cause the Indian was still sitting in one of our seats.

When we told him that he's sitting on our seats again, we saw that he had put his personal bag on the seat he bought while he himself occupied our seat.

Really thick skin... no shame... Never even move even though he knows hes sitting on someone else seats. This Indian is guranteed from India one, not sinkie indian. See the face and behavior I already i know.

Disgrace!

MASAGOS ZULKIFLI: GOVERNMENT WILL NOT LEGALIZE CANNABIS

$

0

2nd Minister for Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli said on Friday that the government would not legalize cannabis as a "soft drug", arguing that the move is "wrong and dangerous".

Masagos was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 20th Anti-Drug Abuse campaign at Suntec.

He said that arguments that cannabis is not as harmful as other drugs are "myths" perpetuated online through social media and "foreign news reports" as they have not been scientifically proven. For example, the so-called medicinal benefits of marijuana “are not conclusive”, Masagos said.

Masagos also noted that the drug has not been approved by the US' own Food and Drug Administration.

The minister also added that cannabis is especially addictive and "harmful to young people".

Despite Singapore's tough anti-drug laws, the media has reported an increase in drug arrests over the last 5 years. Last year, there were 1,110 abusers aged below 30, an increase of 34% from 826 arrests in 2010.

“My message to youths is this: Keep saying no to drugs, whatever form they come in. They will ruin your lives and your future.”

DEAD BODY FOUND IN ROCHER CANAL NEAR WATER CONTROL GATE

OVER 400 PEOPLE INJURED IN TAIWAN WATER PARK EXPLOSION

$

At least 472 people, with about 100 of them injured seriously, were sent to hospital yesterday after flammable powder ignited and caused a huge explosion in mid-air at a water theme park in Taiwan.

At about 8.30PM, the flammable powder was sprayed into the air as part of a show at Formosa Fun Coast, but for unknown reasons caught fire and exploded.

News media reported that "the fire was quickly brought under control," but hundreds of party goers had by then suffered horrendous burns.

Video showed a massive fireball suddenly engulfing the stage, followed by screaming people running for their lives through flames.

Some people used large, inflated inner tubes as stretchers to carry out the injured, CNA reported.

Formosa Fun Coast says that the explosion occurred during the "Color Play Asia" party, which was organized by an events management company which leased out the space at the park.

"We are very regretful (for) this accident that caused injuries to many victims," Formosa Fun Coast said in a statement. "The most urgent matter currently for us is to handle and assist with ... victims on the scene and work comprehensively with the New Taipei Fire Department."

BEWARE OF THIS PACK OF WILD DOGS WHILE CYCLING ALONG LORONG HALUS ROAD

Please refrain from riding your bicycle along Lorong Halus road as there are a pack of wild dogs that will chase after you if they spot you.

I was almost bitten by them at around 8pm today and luckily i ride faster than my usual pace.

They will be resting along the open patch of grass near a construction site. I suspect these dogs are well fed by the construction workers. they can run as fast as close to 30 kph despite i m on my road bike.

You need to ride faster than that to avoid them. I was chased twice as i make a U turn before the TPE and they waited for me along the road as if they know i will be travelling back I almost hit one of them.

Please forward this message to your friend. As I also do not want to hurt them by hitting them at 35KPH . my bike wil go to scrap yard after that too. Best safest plan is not to ride there as there are better safer road to ride

I was a former Cisco Auxiliary Police Officer for 22years, from 1987-2010. In early years, salary was $400, without allowance. 3years after that, salary increased $800 n last HIGH salary was at $1700. Throw in ot n allowances, $600. This last a few good years. I worked ot b4 or after my normal shift, making sure I had sufficient rest.

Bonuses were good, 3-3 1/2 months. Then came Human Resource! They wrecked everything. Cut ot, after 2year bond terminate, cut salaries all round. Cut annual leave. I worked my way up to earn a good salary n earned those extra days of leave. From 21days to 14. Salary from $1700 down to $1349! Work Monday to Sunday, most times 12hrs. Some 14hrs, some 21hrs!

Believe me, most would rather go home n sleep n spend time with family.

A dear friend of mine got promoted before end of her contract. U know what they offered her for her promotion? $1 rank pay! What n insult!

I m Eurasian. Most of e guys in Cisco, r Singapore Malays, with Chinese, local Indians n Eurasian. My fellow Malaysian colleagues r Indian n Chinese. All I see is friends, no race or country as we r in same uniform!!!

"Not to mentioned the orang kampong system where u were if were in good terms or related to the supervisor, promotion, Annual leave and easy kind of job were on your plate"

13years for a promotion. Plus I got letter of commendation from late President Wee Kim Wee! Only one to receive such a letter but counts for nothing. Even when then Inspector selected me for promotion, HE refused! Man fought for me n I got it. Fucking unblemished service record n so much experience after 13years n still refused!

NUS FT LAW PROF UNREMORSEFUL DESPITE GETTING JAIL FOR ASSAULT

$
0
0

NUS assistant law professor Sundram Peter Soosay, who was convicted by the court earlier for assaulting a 70-year-old cabby Mr Sun Chun Hua, has been sentenced to 4 months imprisonment and ordered to compensate the victim $1500.

During sentencing, District Judge Victor Yeo noted that Soosay had ample time since judgment to make compensations to the victim, but nothing has been offered and thus he “has shown no sign of remorse”.

Soosay has indicated that he intends to appeal against his sentence.

What happened

It all began when Soosay vomited in Mr Sun’s taxi in the wee hours of Christmas Day in 2013. After he got out from the cab near King Albert Park, Soosay walked away without paying. Mr Sun ran after him. He then gave Mr Sun a $50 note.

As Soosay followed Mr Sun back to the cab to get change, he attacked Mr Sun from behind, punching him multiple times in the face and body. Mr Sun was left bloodied and in need of multiple stitches.

Mr Sun earlier told the court that he had got his taxi licence in 1983 and this had never happened to him before.

The trial on 29th May

During the trial, Soosay had claimed that he was attacked by the cabby first and had reacted in self-defence, but this was dismissed by Judge Victor Yeo.

I found it to be riddled with hindsight reasoning, convenient conjecture and hypothesis.

The judge said Soosay’s testimony was inconsistent with his first statement to the police.

Despite the accused’s intoxicated state, he seemed able to recall with great clarity how Mr Sun had behaved aggressively towards him.

The court found that Soosay had not made any mention of those details in his first statement to the police. Instead, he told police he was so drunk that he could not remember what had actually happened.

However, Soosay argued that the Investigating Officer (IO) had summarized and compressed his statements to the police.

The judge called Soosay’s allegation that the IO had “compressed” his first statement “serious and most startling”. The IO had been fully aware that Soosay was a law professor and would not have attempted to summarise his statement, the judge said.

Addressing the defence’s suggestion that the cabby had first attacked Soosay, the judge noted that it would be foolish for Mr Sun to do so especially after he had received the $50 note for the taxi fare from Soosay.

The judge then adjourned sentencing to 26th June.

Who is Sundram Peter Soosay?

Soosay joined NUS in 2008 and is a Singapore permanent resident who was originally from Malaysia and later moved to Scotland.

He graduated from Strathclyde University in Glasgow with a LLB, before going on to spend an extended period at Edinburgh University, where he obtained his LLM and PhD.

Interestingly, a check by TR Emeritus shows that neither university attended by Soosay falls within the list of approved foreign universities [Link] recognised by the Ministry of Law for admission to the Singapore Bar (i.e. to practise as lawyers in Singapore). But in the case of Soosay, he is teaching students to be lawyers.

The ranking of his undergraduate university, Strathclyde University, incidentally falls somewhere between NUS/NTU and Mumbai University [Link]:

NUS – 22nd
NTU – 39th
Strathclyde University – 246th
Mumbai University – 551st
Suspended but not dismissed

During an earlier court hearing of Soosay case, an NUS spokesman told the media, “NUS will await the conclusion of legal proceedings before determining what action, if any, should be taken.”

Now that Soosay has been convicted and sentenced, it remains to be seen what action, if any, will be taken by NUS against him.

What do you think NUS will do? “Let’s move on”?

ALL S'POREAN WOMEN MUST BE MADE TO SERVE NATIONAL SERVICE & RESERVIST

$
0
0

There you have it. A star is born in the SAF by the name of Brigadier General Gan Siow Huang. Finally the opposite sex has cracked the brass ceiling previously only thought possible only for men. Granted BG Gan was awarded an overseas merit scholarship. Yet she made the very difficult climb up the ladder, and showed men what she is truly made of. It's even more impressive that she is the mother of three daughters.

All this preamble brings me to this. If BG Gan can do it, I believe that other female Singaporeans have it to succeed in the military as well. Thus all Singaporean women must be made to serve NS, either in the military or in other forms such as medic or engineering. This would be truly good for nation building. After all, why only have the boys do all the work.

Let me provide three benefits of why women should be doing NS and reservist cycles.

1) Men would now no longer complain that they lost their girlfriends to FT, since girls would be in NS with them. These love birds could also procreate during NS which would boost Singapore's declining birth rate.
2) Having women in the military enables the PAP to balance the ratio of men to women. Conscription solves the problem for LHL immediately.
3) Women with dual citizenships have been getting away for too long. Many have obtained foreign citizenships and traveled in and out of Singapore with them, without serving NS. Men who chose not to serve NS do not have this privilege. If they re-enter Singapore, even with their foreign citizenships, they would be arrested on the spot. This needs to change. We need to make it equal. Both men and women who do not serve NS cannot ever step back into Singapore ever again. Either we don't allow at all for both sexes, or we relax this rule going forward. Perhaps those who have emigrated and have foreign citizenships be allowed to return for social visits only.

Next up... NS for all PRs.

AMOS YEE: THE FOOD SERVED IN PRISON IS LOUSY & DILUTED

$

0

My prison mates constantly complain about the food they have in prison:

The tea’s fucking diluted, we only have 1 fruit a day (Either a banana, an orange or an apple). There are only 4 slices of bread for breakfast (Actually that’s usually enough for me, but my fellas here are really heavy eaters).

Not to mention, the trays of food are always served to us stained and covered with our food’s gravy, and we’d always to clean the sides of our trays with towels before eating.
The company that provides our food is named ‘Score’ and the section of the company that specifically deals with bread is called ‘Score bakery’.

So that means that somebody actually had the ambition and said, ‘I want to devote my life to a company that serves mediocre food to prisoners’.

My gosh, you gotta get a better job dude, though maybe you decided to do this because the pay is high eh?
